Without saying the C word. Let’s talk about the current situation!
Things are a little bit unsettling at the moment, aren’t they? I am really trying to practise what I preach a lot more than usual, as with what is happening in the world at the moment, small, local and independent businesses are worrying – and it’s worrying me and lots of other people.
That’s why, thanks to Coronavirus, I have decided to pull together as many resources as I can possible which you can take from whenever you need it, regardless of whether you are in isolation, you know someone in need, or you’re looking for your next Friday night takeaway.
I wish I was writing this Northants Food Guide in better circumstances and with better resources, but all I am trying to do is help those who need the information quickly and easily as well as support local businesses.
So here is a list of local takeaways, delivery services, home-cooked food services, local producers who deliver and much more – I will try and keep this guide as updated as possible – updated November 2020.

June Plum are going above and beyond by providing home deliveries right to your door, as well as even picking up anything else on the way for anyone in need.
From Jerk fish with festival peas and rice, to curried goat, if you’re looking for a bit of Jamaican spice for your next takeaway, June Plum can deliver around Wellingborough, or for an extra delivery charge, across Northamptonshire too.

Spice of Bruene
Spice of Bruene are hosting their usual takeaway and delivery service from Stoke Bruene and can deliver across Northamptonshire with an additional charge if over 5 miles.
We love ordering a curry from them and they have provided us with a good selection, so definitely one to consider when you’re next ordering an Indian!

The Old Grocery Espresso Bar
This small coffee shop based in Northampton has only been open for a year, so now is even more important than ever to support them.
They will be offering takeaway options, so you can come in, order, grab and go and they source all their ingredients locally, from The Good Loaf, Bella Barista, Little Bakery of Happiness and more – so when you’re supporting them, you are supporting others too.

Ten Hands Cafe Bar
Ten Hands Cafe Bar will be adapting their hot drinks, food and cakes for takeaway!
Enjoy boxes of cake to take home with you, as well as several breakfast and brunch options too!
Opening hours now will be from 9am – 2:30pm and as always, please wear a mask as you enter inside!
The Rice Bowl
For a great service and Chinese, The Rice Bowl will be delivering across NN12 and surrounding villages.

Truva Charcoal Bar & Grill
One of the takeaways I have been waiting for: Truva is back!
Truva Charcoal Bar & Grill are back offering deliveries and takeaways around the Towcester area as well as other surrounding areas with a limited, but still great menu.
You can order hot and cold starters, main courses, specials and desserts such as Baklava!
Zone 1 closest to the restaurant has a £1 delivery charge, followed zone 2 for a £3 delivery charge and zone 3 for a £5 delivery charge. Check out their Facebook page for further updates.
Pinch My Bun
Whilst Pinch My Bun is no longer open as a restaurant, they will be open to come and collect takeaways!
This might be a special trip for us during lockdown as I am craving the taste of their scrumptious burgers and mac and cheese!

Potterspury House will be offering their Caribbean inspired menu through takeaways on Friday and Saturday nights!
It was a recent menu they only launched not too long ago, so it’s great to see they have adapted it for takeaway. The menu looks incredible and offers dishes from starters, mains and desserts and their Curry Goat is definitely something I want to try!

Meal delivery and produce services
If you’re looking for some home-cooked meals to be delivered to your home, Cibo are a family run catering business with over 40 years experience in the industry who can make delicious home-cooked food delivered to your door for you to reheat, complete with potatoes, rice or veg.
Menu options include Chilli Con Carne with Rice and Nachos, Chicken Breast Stuffed with a Mushroom Duxelles and served in a Cream and White Wine Sauce with Rice and Lasagna.

The Plough Shutlanger
The Plough Shutlanger are now hosting a community store where you can shop and takeaway fresh produce such as meat, vegetables, fruit, eggs, pasta and more, PLUS fresh fish and even toiletries!
It’s open every Tuesday – Sunday in Shutlanger and you can either pop in (if you are well or comfortable enough) or you can order for collection or delivery.
But not only that, you can also order a variety of takeaway meals if you don’t fancy cooking. From Roast Dinners, Steak night boxes, burger and chips and much more!

Burnt Lemon Catering
Burnt Lemon Catering will be bringing the fine dining, top notch food straight to your door with their home-cooked delivery service and their menu looks incredible!
You can be rest assured everything will be prepared with the highest hygiene precautions.
Menu items include Lamb Bacon Caesar, Moroccan Lamb, Chicken Supreme and much more!

I Cook You Serve
I Cook You Serve will be continuing to provide their homemade evening meals, which they have been doing for the last 9 years.
This is a part of their weekly ‘Fill Your Fridge’ service and includes a weekly menu which provides 5 different options (chicken, fish, beef, pork or lamb and vegetarian/vegan) as well as homemade soup, spicy rice box and fruit crumble.
They post the menu every Wednesday, orders in by Friday and can deliver between NN1-NN5 every Monday evening between 4pm-9pm.
All our meals are already cooked, so just need to be gently reheated and can be stored in the fridge, but can be frozen due to being freshly made.

A brand new online grocers has come just in time for lockdown!
Local Grocers is your hub for everything local and a one stop shop in finding your nearest artisan food providers. Currently, they have online stores within Northamptonshire and Warwickshire but I have a feeling they’re going to expand very soon!
Currently for Northamptonshire, they have stores for The Beer Garage, Collins Fresh Produce, Ruby & Claret Wine and many more – plus, Local Grocers even has their own larder where you can add essential bits like toilet roll, shower gel, toothpaste and more!
I’ve placed an order recently to avoid shopping in the supermarkets and I can’t wait to share that with you!
Greens Country Kitchen
Greens Country Kitchen is run by Debbie Green and she has put together lots of takeaway and delivery options to keep you satisfied during the lockdown.
Throughout November, they will still be open offering their Cook & Collect weekly meals which can be collected from Welford, Northamptonshire.
If you fancy something sweeter, their Grazing and Afternoon Tea boxes are also available for collection or delivery throughout the county, as well as their well as their wide selection of cheese from their cheese shop.
Not only that, they are also preparing their Christmas Menus which will be available to pre-order too!

Local food & drink producers
Still want a gin fix, but can’t get out to the supermarkets? If you’re feeling like you could do with a cheeky tipple or two around this pandemic, Wharf Distillery are offering a local delivery service for all online orders within a 10mile radius of Potterspury or Towcester.
Just select ‘local pick up’ when ordering. If you don’t wish to answer the door, you can leave them instructions so you can receive your products safe and sound.
To keep supporting local, you have to buy local, so instead of threatening over buying your bulk standard condiment from a supermarket, consider purchasing your next Ketchup, Spicy Ketchup and more from BiteMe Spices.
They are offering free delivery/ refunded of postage on delivery within 2 miles of Northampton town centre – if you’re based further, an extra charge will be applied.

Duston Village Bakery
If you’re feeling low about the fact people are being greedy and taking all the essential items, whether for yourself, or for someone in need, you can head to Duston Village Bakery for your essentials.
They have a pop up shop available which is stocked full of toilet roll, canned food, fresh bread and more – plenty to go round and stocked daily.
They have recently decided to offer deliveries around Duston on Monday’s, Wednesday’s and Friday’s for those who are over 70 and/or in self-isolation. The orders will need to be placed on a Friday for a Monday delivery, Monday for a Wednesday delivery and Wednesday for a Friday delivery.
Minimum spend of £10 and will have to be paid over phone by card and they will knock three times, step away and once you have opened the door they will leave. Delivery will be available from Friday 20th March.

Love Northampton Market
If you are stuck for fresh produce such as fruit, vegetables and meat, don’t forget you can rely on your local market in Northampton Market Square for all your fresh produce needs which you can takeaway straight away.
Whittlebury Bakery is another prime example of a community bakery just trying to do their bit locally.
You can pop in and grab all your essential supplies from their pop-up shop and will be offering a delivery service to their customers which will include milk, eggs, bread and more.
If you’re based in Whittlebury, or near, they can deliver locally. Further afield, an additional charge will apply.

As always, Friars Farm are always championing local and are still able to take orders on their online shop and deliver their famous chutneys, jams, pickled onions and more locally.
They can take payments over the phone or via contactless.
Replete Flatbreads, like many local food and drink producers, rely on food festivals and fairs to sell their products. But they are now looking into doing a delivery service where a menu will be available very soon!
The Beer Garage
The Beer Garage are already known for having the best craft beer, cider and spirits and delivering them straight to your door – but as some of you know, they have been offering free local delivery since they have started and can offer it across Northampton and Milton Keynes.
If you’re worried about stocking up on alcohol, why not consider reaching out to the lovely Beer Garage for your needs.

The Good Loaf
The Good Loaf is an Artisan Bakery & Community Cafe. Providing top quality real bread plus training & employment opportunities for female ex-offenders – and to help support this work, they need your business more than ever.
They are now offering a ‘Click & Collect’ service. Place an order via our website before 4pm and your bread, rolls and cakes will be available to collect the following day – all up to 8pm.
Why purchase supermarket bread when you can get your hands on homemade!
i’m real ice cream
Whilst the weather has been gloriously good, it’s felt like the perfect time to indulge in ice cream when the sun is out. Luckily, you can still grab your ice cream fix thanks to i’m real ice cream.
I love this ice cream so much for being superbly yummy, full of fresh ingredients and having the most delicious flavours!
