Looking for a great way to celebrate your birthday in Northamptonshire? I’ve celebrated quite a few birthdays and Northants has plenty to put you in the celebratory mood!
On 12th July 2021, I turned the ripe age of 27 years old, which means I am much closer to 30 than I am to 20. YIKES.
On my birthday, it’s no lie that I like to have a complete day off in order to celebrate properly. I won’t lie to you; I love being spoiled and doing things that I love (who doesn’t!?)
To celebrate my birthday, but to also give anyone out there some ideas on how YOU can celebrate your birthday in style, I have shared 7 ways you can celebrate your birthday in Northamptonshire.
Getting older doesn’t have to be a bad thing, right?
Sure, it’s nice to go away, but as you know, this blog is all about celebrating all things Northamptonshire and showcasing that it’s a fantastic place to visit regardless of whether you’re a local or a tourist.
So here are some ways you can celebrate this year:
Birthday breakfast or brunch
Nothing says ‘Happy Birthday; quite like a birthday breakfast!
Places I have visited previously include The Super Sausage Cafe in Potterspury for a BIG birthday fry up, or if I fancy something a bit lighter but still as yummy, I could opt for Ten Hands Cafe Bar, Old Market Inn Kettering and Marseille Cafe and Bar.
Going out for food, especially a fancy breakfast, is one of my favourite ways to kick start the day – especially if bubbles are involved!
You can’t beat a bit of retail therapy, right?
Luckily, we have plenty of lovely high streets that accommodate independent and local retailers for you to shop until you drop.
For example, you can head to Northampton town centre and bag yourself a bargain, head inside the Weston Favell Shopping Centre or even Rushden Lakes which has plenty of big brand high street names as well as some fantastic restaurants.
Independent outlets like Nene Court Emporium can also make a wonderful birthday treat out as you’ll discover items that no one else will have!
Go see a show at the theatre
Now restrictions are lifting, we can FINALLY go and watch a show at the theatre!
Royal & Derngate have a whole host of shows coming to both auditoriums that will suit everyone – from plays, musicals, comedy and much more. I am so impressed with the current schedule of events that the theatre is currently hosting right now and I am craving my first trip back very soon!
Plus, you can enjoy pre-show drinks and a cheeky cheeseboard before your show at John Franklin’s which is right next to the theatre!
Relax and enjoy a spa day
If you’re looking to take the day off and do absolutely nothing, why not do it in style?
A spa day is one of my top ways of enjoying my birthday; getting to relax and feel all pampered! We are spoiled for choice here for spa days in Northamptonshire…
Fawsley Hall has recently had a revamp of their spa, so you can enjoy their brand new experience! Whittlebury Park also boasts a lovely spa experience with pools, treatments and a lovely dining area to sit and relax in.
Other suggestions for fantastic spa days include Grafton Spa, York Cottage Spa where you can use the spa exclusively with no one else disturbing you, Rushton Hall and many more!
I feel a new guide coming up…
Go for some cocktails
Celebratory cocktails always go down well!
If you’ve had a big day of celebrating during the day, why not organise a cocktail night with your friends in the evening – with plenty of taxi companies to take you home afterwards too!
A couple of cocktail bars you could visit include Aura Bar, John Franklin’s, Ruby & Claret, Meanwhile Bar, Old House Northampton and Brooklyn Social to name a few…
I recently enjoyed some at Old House Northampton for my birthday with a friend and they offered a great night out!
Go for bottomless brunch
If you like the idea of cocktails and brunch together, why not do a bottomless brunch!?
It’s definitely become a more popular activity to do and Northamptonshire seems to be coming up with more and more, especially as the summer season rolls around!
One suggestion to turn to (and one I am desperate to do) includes Old Market Inn Kettering’s bottomless brunch which looks INSANE on Instagram!
Indulge in an Afternoon Tea
If you don’t enjoy something sweet and indulge in some cake, was it really your birthday?
Northamptonshire has a whole range of afternoon tea options (I have a full Northants Food Guide on where you can find the best afternoon tea) and a lot of these places will go above and beyond to accommodate for your special day!
Browse a range of packages that include something fizzy to celebrate the occasion too!
I hope these give you some ideas on how you can celebrate your own birthday on your doorstep if you live in Northamptonshire, but also if you don’t – there are some fab things to do here!
