2020 has been a funny ol’ year, hasn’t it?
We don’t know whether we are in, out, shaking it all about (ha!) or what the current guidelines are surrounding the COVID-19 situation and no one really knows what’s happening.
But my viewpoint has always been; as long as you keep safe and keep to social distancing guidelines, wash your hands etc, then there’s no stopping you from going out and enjoying what’s on your doorstep.
Of course, I understand we all have our own points of view and I respect that.
But I do want to make the very best of Autumn and the lead up to Christmas as much as possible, as I want to go out of 2020 on a happy note and I’ve been feeling more comfortable getting myself out and about too.
Northamptonshire events are now starting to pick up which is great to see, so I wanted to write a little guide on what you can expect this Autumn as there’s a range of things to do for everyone to get involved with.
I’m hoping to navigate to a few of these, which will be brilliant but I hope I can inspire you to attend a few of these too!
From food events, seasonal activities, to all things magical, here is a round-up on what you can do this Autumn in Northamptonshire:
BiteStreet NN Indoors
If you thought BiteStreet NN was done and dusted for another year: think again!
Hallelujah! BiteStreet NN is heading to a new indoor venue, thanks to the Northamptonshire County Ground which is the kinda news we all want to hear in 2020.
Due to the fact the Northampton Winter Food Festival couldn’t go ahead for obvious reasons, Crispin and the organisers behind both decided that it would make more sense to hold BiteStreet at the cricket ground instead.
It means we’re getting the same tasty experience as we would at Duston Mill; except you can expect to firstly, not get cold or for it to be too windy, but secondly: table service using a handy app where you can order from the comfort of your table!
I’m really excited to see how this new way of enjoying street food goes down and I expect it’s going to be a busy event (but of course, the organisers have picked a very good venue which ensures proper social distancing!)
The first event takes place this weekend (October 9th – 10th) and you can still grab your tickets here.

Halloween Fun at Rockingham Castle
If you love all things Halloween, you will love it even more especially at Rockingham Castle!
I’m so pleased to hear this event is going ahead, after the cancellation of their annual food and drink festival, as the castle will open up for half term to bring a fun day out for all the family offering lots of spooky Halloween activities!
You’ll be lead by one of Rockingham’s witches or wizards through the castle, where you will learn the history of this magnificent landmark, as well as through the castle grounds. You might even spot a carved pumpkin or two!
The event will be running from Tuesday 20th – Thursday 22nd October and Tuesday 27th – Thursday 29th October and pre-booking is essential on their website.
Apple Day at Saxby’s Farm
Saxby’s Cider are inviting all to celebrate the apple, the main ingredient to their delicious cider, to enjoy a day at the farm where you can expect full on apple pressing demonstrations, where you can also bring your own apples (so you can take home the juice!)
Plus, it’s a good one to bring the kids to as there’s a games room filled with lots to entertain them, a treasure hunt, face painting and more!
For the adults, the bar will also be open where you can buy and enjoy Saxby’s delicious cider as well as seasonal hot mulled cider too – plus street food to satisfy your appetites.
It’s happening on Saturday 10th October from 1pm – 6:30pm and you can grab your tickets here.

I have a WHOLE blog post on this, but tis’ is the season to be pumpkin picking!
Northamptonshire has lots of PYO Pumpkin Picking events happening where you can get your wellies on and grab your pumpkins, whether for decoration, or for cooking or carving for Halloween!
To name a few, Overstone Grange Farm have been hugely popular with their event since opening last weekend, Saxby’s Cider have their own coming up, plus Mini Meadows which is ideal for little ones.
You can check out my blog post on Pumpkin Picking in Northamptonshire here.
Harry Potter Afternoon Tea’s
Autumn seems to be the best season for all things Harry Potter, right?
So it’s no surprise that there are a few magical themed events happening from different businesses across Northamptonshire.
Firstly, the literally, absolutely fabulous, Absolutely Vintage is teaming up with Rushden, Higham and Wellingborough Station to bring you a Wizarding Afternoon Tea in their unique buffet carriage – literally like you’re eating afternoon tea on the Hogwarts Express!
You’ll even have a chance to learn how to make potions too, whilst enjoying the fabulous food that AV have to offer!
There is only one date left on Thursday 29th October, so get booking quick!
Secondly, Whilton Lock’s Garden Village in Daventry will be hosting their own Harry Potter Afternoon Tea, which they host every year around this time and it always sounds super as it’s always a sell out!
It’s a great opportunity to bring younger ones as it’s during half term where you get to enjoy afternoon tea in their Mandrake Potting Shed where you can experience delights such as Breadstick Wands, Philosopher’s Scones, Wizard Cupcakes and more.
There’s still time to book on their event page. It’s £15 per adult and £10 per child.
Christmas Preview Evening at Bell Plantation
I know, I know… I know I said it was an Autumn what’s in guide, but this event is happening in November and I couldn’t resist slipping in a Christmas themed event!
Bell Plantation will be back on Wednesday 4th November and it’s always such a magical evening which always gets the locals of Towcester and beyond excited as Bell Plantation always go above and beyond with their decorations and displays.
It’s truly a great opportunity to start thinking about Christmas and it always leaves me feeling inspired over what to do, or what to buy for everyone. Plus, some local food & drink producers are usually present offering samples of their products and there’s always a glass or two of bubbly on offer.
The date is set, but tickets are not available yet, so keep your eyes peeled on their website.
I’ll keep this updated should any more Autumn events pop up, but I’ll be doing a seperate post later on filled with Christmas events, so keep your eyes peeled for that!
If I have missed anything or you want to let me know about an event you’re running, please let me know via email (email@example.com) or pop it in the comments below!
